Helping teachers in their professional development has now become even easier to do. Technology has provided us with the means to deliver our courses to anyone with a computer and an internet connection.

In collaboration with Teacher Training Australia (TTA), we have developed a course that provides real study flexibility, allowing you the freedom to choose when and where you do your work. With the flexibility of distance education and our online learning and research tools, you can study your own way, in your own time.

This course can now be done online at your own pace, within a five week time limit. There are two forums requiring participation at approximately the same time, but the rest is on your schedule.

Beginning with basic vowel and consonant spelling rules, the course quickly moves through teaching syllabification, morphology and the use of innovative spelling tools creatively designed to produce effective, engaging spelling lessons.

Learning Objectives Outline

After the training, you will be able to deliver this 15-20 hour spelling course with students from start to finish.

You will have the tools to teach students to construct a comprehensive notebook outlining simple to complex spelling rules.

You will also have many opportunities to be supported and be involved in follow-up.

̈As well as being a practical course, incorporated into the manual is a theory behind every new concept.

You will also be able to explain many of the basic linguistic principles that underlie correct spelling.

Course Sessions

Session 1 - Vowels and Consonants

Duration: 75min

Description: Presentation of a notebook that outlines the concept of vowels and consonants, their sounds and the rules which govern their placement in words.

2 Final Silent E

Duration: 75min

Description: The various jobs of Final Silent E, including No Job E and incorporating other, more complex linguistic principles.

Session 3 - Vowels Before R, Syllable Counting and Affixes

Duration: 75min

Description: Our first look at vowel digraphs and how to generate them. In this session, teachers guide students to learn how to create their own consonant blends and generate new words.

Session 4 - Putting it All Together...

Duration: 75min

Description: Taking all that prior knowledge, this session gives the tools to create powerful, engaging spelling lessons. The final digraphs are generated and applied using the highly acclaimed Spelling Formula.
