One Linguist's Research and Experience in Literacy Teaching.
As a linguist and literacy specialist, I have built this site to share my experiences in teaching literacy and language to children and adults of all ages and abilities.
I Am A Clinician First And Foremost
I have spent my entire career focusing on grammar, reading, spelling and comprehension.
My focus is on what works. Good literacy and language programs and resources are the lifeblood of my business.
I am Spalding, Lindamood and Fast For Word trained and have developed my own training materials that comprise the Language For Life teaching compendium, including the acclaimed Spelling For Life Program currently touring Australia.
What I recommend has been thoroughly tried and tested during hundreds of clinical hours.
I also teach my own children, and as every parent says...
"Only The Best Will Do For My Children"
I have three young children of my own. They are learning to read and write with me.
My eldest is nine and has cri du chat syndrome, a genetic disorder that makes her struggle with language. She has given me insight into the holistic nature of human language development that I would otherwise never have seen.
You can read her story by clicking on the disability link to the left of this page.
My middle child is seven and has taught me much about dyslexia. Her story and other articles on the subject of dyslexia are also on this site.
My youngest child is five and is left-handed. She is helping me discover the wonder of right-hemisphere dominance. More to follow...
My parents taught me to read using the Doman flashcard method when I was a baby. I can personally attest to the value of that experience. The Pre-School button will tell that story.
Summaries of each page on this site are listed below. Enjoy!
