One Linguist's Research and Experience in Literacy Teaching.
As a linguist and literacy specialist, I know that spending time keeping up with the latest in literacy and language can be frustrating. This is why, after thousands of hours of researching and teaching, this website was built.
I would like to pass my experience on so that you can have the benefit of all this work without going throught the trial and error process.
This website is designed to save you time, money and effort when you are seeking reading, writing, grammar and spelling resources. In turn, this will help you to reach your professional development goals much quicker. How can you do that?
Have The Experience Of A Trained Linguist At Your Fingertips
I have spent my entire career focusing on grammar, reading, spelling and comprehension. As a result, I'm impervious to hype and slick marketing. There's plenty of that about in this field!
This means you don't have to end up paying for great-sounding, but empty promises. With Linguistlearning you get a toolbox with effective resources that you can use straight away. This is because...
I Am A Clinician First And Foremost
My focus is on what works. Good literacy and language programs and resources are the lifeblood of my business. What I recommend has been thoroughly tried and tested during hundreds of clinical hours. This means that you get honest and trustworthy information..
I also teach my own children, and as every parent says...
"Only The Best Will Do For My Children"
I have three young children of my own. They are learning to read and write with me.
My eldest is seven and has cri du chat syndrome, a genetic disorder that makes her struggle with language. She has given me insight into the holistic nature of human language development that I would otherwise never have seen.
You can read Chloe's story by clicking on the disability link to the left of this page.
My parents also taught me to read using the Doman flashcard method when I was a baby. I can personally attest to the value of that experience.
My own story as a clinician and parent has given me the means to provide you with a broad range of reliable resources.
Reviews That Tell You What You Need To Know
My job is to keep abreast of the latest products and services in the literacy and language field. To facilitate this, linguistlearning will be publishing reviews. Please see the Reviews button to the left.
If you are looking for tools to help your students read and write better, these reviews will save you time, money and effort*. If you've found a book or a tool that you're considering buying, I'm happy to take requests for reviews as well.
Regular Updates To Keep Your Lessons Fresh And Exciting
To hone your skills and and keep your lessons from ever stagnating, Linguistlearning will publish new techniques as they are created. My clinic prides itself on being a research and development centre. New literacy systems are constantly being created and trialled on students of all ages and abilities.
By checking back here regularly, or opting in for the members' newsletter, you can add to your set of reading, writing and grammar teaching skills.
There will also be the "Have you ever had a student who..." section. This will be a forum on case studies and original ideas for overcoming individual obstacles. There will be regular contributors who also work teaching children and adults to read and write better.
